Spotting Scopes – What Are They?

Image result for spotting scopes

Basically they are a type of telescope that is designed to view objects on Earth and not in space. Many times a spotting scope is used by birdwatchers to get a close-up view of birds in the distance. Spotting scopes are also used by people who are “plane spotters.” The magnification range varies but the range usually falls between astronomy telescopes and binoculars. You can purchase spotting scopes at many bird watching and optical stores along with accessories like camera mounts and tripods. A spotting scope is designed to have a wide field of view to make it easier to spot objects in visual field. In the outdoors they are designed to stand up to rugged use.

The magnification of a spotting scope is usually rated between twenty and sixty times magnification but it all depends on the type of product you purchase. One thing to note is that the higher the magnifications the more useful it will be in the field but you do not want a magnification that is so high that it can make the product hard to use. You also want to make sure that is not below twenty magnifications because if it is you might as well just purchase a regular pair of binoculars.

• To be a good spotting scope it should be extremely lightweight so it is easy to carry when working in the field.
• They should also be weather resistant so the optical tools can be used in inclement weather.
• You can also get such scopes that have the ability to interface with cameras so you can photograph the objects they are looking at. Being able to use a camera is very useful for bird watchers who want photographs of the birds they have seen.
• Some even have mounts for telescopes

Types of spotting scope optics

There are two basic types which are:

• Catadioptric scopes – this catadioptric scopes uses mirrors to reflect light to create the image. Although this type creates clearer images they are more fragile. This type of product is also more expensive
• Refractor scopes – the refractor scopes uses an optical glass to bend the light to allow you to see the images. It is a lightweight product and is less expensive.

There are many different design variations which can include:

• Hinged so it can be mounted to a tripod but at the same time allowing the viewing aperture to be moved for shorter or taller people.
• No flexibility which can be easier to use when you want to track something in your visual field.
• Focusing mechanisms
• Weather protection

These products are a great alternative to usual binoculars but not many people know how these great gadgets work. If you are planning on buying the best spotting scopes then I recommend that you first read a few spotting scope reviews so that the decision making is an informed one.

10 Reasons You Need Swimming Lessons

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons are an essential part of a child’s education, and whether they learn to swim at school, or at private lessons, being able to swim increases confidence, and can become an enjoyable and healthy total fitness hobby.

For adults who have never learnt to swim, or for those who haven’t been swimming for a long time, why not learn to swim today? Swimming lessons aren’t just for children.

Here are 10 reasons to book swimming lessons, and learn to swim today

1) Swimming lessons, and ultimately being able to swim brings many benefits, such as feeling safe near water, and enjoying being by the swimming pool and feeling confident enough to try other water sports perhaps whilst on holiday. Imagine being able to water ski, or sail a boat, or go sea fishing. Even just being on the beach or investigating rock pools requires a certain level of water safety, especially where children are concerned.

2) Many swimming pools and swimming clubs offer swimming lessons to children as young as 3. Your child is likely to enjoy learning to swim, and will experience a great sense of achievement as they progress from the first moments away from the side of the pool, swimming without armbands, and gaining badges and certificates. Swimming lessons for children are usually around 30 minutes long each, and parents can often spectate.

3) If you didn’t have swimming lessons as a child, you may think that you have missed out on being able to swim, but this needn’t be the case as swimming lessons aren’t just for children. Many clubs have at least one swimming pool, so that you can incorporate your swimming lessons into your fitness routine. If your children are having swimming lessons at school you might want to take them swimming outside of school. If you haven’t swum for many years and you don’t feel confident, you may want to consider organising your own swimming lessons, so that you and your children will benefit.

4) Los Angeles swimming lessons are often available for parents and children, so that children can get used to the water and build up their confidence before embarking on swimming lessons. Water skills are invaluable, and can be learnt at a very early age. Having fun in the pool is the most important aspect of these sessions, and the emphasis is on playing with toys and games rather than actually learning to swim.

5) Swimming provides many health benefits and a good low impact cardio vascular workout. Swimming is often recommended for those people who are recovering from injury or an operation, as well as those who are unable to undertake other forms of exercise. Swimming can be used as part of a rehabilitation routine, or as a water workout total fitness programme by itself.

6) A water workout is an exercise regime that is carried out in the pool without a swimming instructor. Instead swimming lessons showing exercises and required equipment are on cards so that the swimmer can work through the exercises at their own pace.

7) If you are a confident swimmer, then maybe you are considering swimming lessons to improve your technique. Expert swimming instructors can iron out any posture or stroke issues, and help you swim better. These lessons are longer, and it will be expected that the swimmer is already able to swim.

8) When choosing swimming lessons, it is important that you and/or your child feel comfortable with the environment and the swimming instructors. If the pool is dirty and has cracked tiles, then maybe you will think that the standard of swimming lessons provided may not be too high. Some people prefer their swimming lessons to be taught by their own swimming teacher, rather than be in a group. Having the instructor’s full attention can lead to quick progress, and any problem areas can be addressed straight away, but there are no others to swim with. If you feel that you or your child would learn best this way, why not see if your swimming pool offers one to one individual swimming lessons.

9) Swimming lessons should ideally lead to certification, such as the ASA awards, so that there is record of progress. Progression leads to confidence and shows how far they have progressed. Also, if you change club, the new instructors will be able to see the ability level and ensure that you are in the right group.

10) A swimming school should employ CRB checked, ASA qualified instructors who are skilled and experienced in providing swimming lessons for all different ages and abilities. Having the capability to communicate effectively is important when teaching both children and adults. The swimmer wants to progress, and the teacher wants their pupil to progress.

Swimming lessons can provide you and your child with new found confidence and skills which could save a life, and will last for life. As well as being a fantastic form of exercise, swimming is great fun and a rewarding hobby. Why not find out more about swimming lessons today, and see what you’re missing out on?

Hydrogen Peroxide Teeth Whitening – How To Safely Whiten Your Teeth With Hydrogen Peroxide

One of the two chemicals most commonly used in over the counter teeth whitening products today is hydrogen peroxide. This is the active ingredient responsible for the whitening results provided by many at home whitening gels, strips, and pens. This powerful chemical can provide great whitening results but care must be taken to use it safely and avoid potential side effects.

What is Hydrogen Peroxide?
Hydrogen peroxide is made up of two atoms of hydrogen and two of oxygen. It takes the form of a clear liquid resembling water but it functions as an oxidizer – a chemical that breaks down into oxygen. Because of this it is has many applications in cleaning and bleaching. For example, it is used to sterilize wounds and bleach hair. Teeth whitening is just one of the many uses of this chemical.

How Does Hydrogen Peroxide Whiten Teeth?
Hydrogen peroxide is a useful whitening agent because it breaks down into water and oxygen. It is the concentrated oxygen released by peroxide that actively breaks apart the chemical bonds holding together the stain pigments within your teeth. Unlike abrasive ingredients like baking soda that can only clear stains off the surface enamel of your teeth, the oxygen from peroxide can penetrate into the porous structure of your enamel and dentin to clean your teeth from the inside out. The yellow or brown discoloration on your teeth is the result of stain pigments from eating certain foods, drinks or from smoking. The oxygen tears apart these pigments at a molecular level, resulting in far whiter teeth than can be achieved with surface level cleaning.

How Does Hydrogen Peroxide Compare to Carbamide Peroxide?
Carbamide peroxide is also used for teeth whitening and in fact carbamide will break down into hydrogen peroxide. This means that a solution of carbamide peroxide has less concentrated whitening power than an equal percentage of hydrogen peroxide. It’s only about a third as strong. A 30% percent concentration of carbamide peroxide is only as effective at bleaching your teeth to a whiter shade as a 10% solution of hydrogen peroxide. Despite this carbamide peroxide is popularly used in whitening products.

The reason carbamide peroxide is commonly used in at home whitening products instead of hydrogen peroxide is because it is safer to handle. Whitening products that include carbamide peroxide for whitening are safer to use and much less likely to cause side effects than hydrogen peroxide whitening gels which use stronger concentrations of peroxide. A good carbamide peroxide whitening gel can still get you the whitening results you’re looking for, despite providing less peroxide.

Both carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide are effective at whitening teeth. Don’t worry too much about the relative strengths and concentrations of various peroxide-based whitening products. Instead of trying to find the highest concentration of hydrogen peroxide available in a whitening product you can get the whiter teeth you want with a lower and safer concentration of carbamide peroxide.

What Are the Potential Side Effects of Hydrogen Peroxide?
Unfortunately, because it is such a strong oxidizer hydrogen peroxide can cause side effects like temporarily increased tooth sensitivity or even chemical burns if allowed to come in contact with skin or the gums.

These side effects can be avoided however. To prevent tooth sensitivity that makes it painful to eat ice cream or drink hot soup you can use a restorative fluoride toothpaste featuring NovaMin to repair the structure of your teeth before whitening with a hydrogen peroxide gel. This will make your teeth less susceptible to that annoying side effect.

Preventing chemical burns is also easy. Just follow the manufacturer’s directions exactly as written, carefully noting the amount of whitening gel to use. This will keep the peroxide gel from seeping out of its holding tray and coming into contact with your gums. Remember that using more gel will not whiten your teeth any faster. Don’t fill the tray with more gel than necessary.

You can also consider using a product featuring a lower concentration of peroxide to avoid side effects, but it will take more treatments to get the attractive white smile you’re after.

What Teeth Whitening Results Will Hydrogen Peroxide Provide?
The results you’ll get from treating your teeth with a hydrogen peroxide whitening product will vary depending on the severity of your dental stains, the concentration of the peroxide solution, how long each whitening session is and how many days you keep whitening. Because of all these different factors it’s difficult to make a precise estimate of how effectively your teeth will be whitened, but peroxide products are the most powerful conventional whitening solutions available. Even dentists use peroxide when they whiten your teeth in a professional whitening treatment. You should expect a to have teeth that are at least a few shades whiter than what you started with, if you are using a quality ADA approved whitening gel.

How Long Will Whitening With Hydrogen Peroxide Take?
Just as with the whitening results it’s difficult to estimate the length of time you’ll need to whiten to reach your goal, but you can expect to see results within one to two weeks of daily treatment. This is far faster than whitening with toothpaste alone.

Do Dentists Use Hydrogen Peroxide to Whiten Teeth?
Peroxide is the most common way to whiten teeth other than abrasion. It’s not just limited to over the counter products for home use. Dentists use it to whiten teeth in treatments within a dental office. These treatments can be expensive, costing several hundred dollars per session. Because of this it is far more cost-effective to try out whitening at home with peroxide gel and following up with whitening toothpaste to see if the results are good enough for you, before dealing with the expense of multiple professional whitening sessions.

If you choose to have your dentist bleach your teeth the procedure will usually take no more than an hour per session, with the number of sessions determined by how badly discolored your teeth are and how white you want them to be, as well as how many sessions you can afford.

The dentist will begin by cleaning your teeth with an abrasive, then cover your gums to prevent them coming in contact with the powerful concentration of peroxide that will be used, and finally apply the peroxide to your teeth.

What At-Home Teeth Whitening Products Contain Hydrogen Peroxide?
You can purchase diluted concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in liquid form as a general purpose oxidizer for use in cleaning or bleaching and use this form mixed with baking soda to whiten your teeth, but peroxide products made specifically for whitening teeth will produce the best results while also being safer to handle and use. Hydrogen peroxide is most commonly found as the active ingredient in whitening strips and you can also purchase whitening gels that use it, though the carbamide form of peroxide is more commonly found in whitening gels.

How Should Hydrogen Peroxide Whitening Gels Be Used?
Carefully follow the directions as written by the manufacturer and do not use more gel than specified to avoid side effects like gum irritation and pain. Specifics will vary from brand to brand, but generally you will use a tray to hold the gel in contact with your teeth for a short period of time per session, with one or two sessions per day as needed.

People are becoming more and more aware of what they buy. And it’s no wonder, with the increasing number of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, food additives that are finding their way into our food, clothing and cosmetic products.

The only way to avoid these health hazards? Going organic. The problem is very few can afford to go all green, since organic products tend to have higher prices than regular products. Does this make organic products a luxury? Not at all.

The organic market is one of the fastest growing markets, reaching over $28.6 billion in 2010 – a 8% growth compared to 2009. The most growth was experienced by the fruits and vegetables niche – 12% from the previous year – reaching $10.6 billion in 2010. The statistics confirm the trend: consumers are starting to favor organic products, which in turn will help the organic farmers increase production and offer better prices.

But until the market will be able to offer us the best organic products at lower costs, we have to work with what we have: the current prices.

First, we can start by making at home some of the products we use. We can make perfume combing alcohol (vodka) and essential organic oils. Instead of expensive laundry detergents, we can use soap flakes not only for laundry, but also for washing the dishes (by melting the soap flakes and mixing them with a little vinegar and lime essential oil. We can make some food products in-house, such as baby food, instead of buying expensive purees.

Second, we can start by giving up products that are bad for us: sugary cereals (use integral cereals instead), all kinds of snacks with a long list of chemical ingredients, biscuits and sweets (use raw chocolate or raw cocoa to make your own sweets).

Third, you can use a price comparison site for organic products to help you find the cheapest organic products on the market.

Forth, we don’t have to go organic all at once. We can start with critical products – organic baby clothes and food – or products with a longer life span – organic shampoo, creams, deodorants, perfumes, cleaning products, organic toys…

Either way, you can start living healthier right now and avoid or at least minimize the risk of damaging your body and the environment. Organic products are not a luxury anymore, they are a necessity.

Dungeons and Dragons Books – How to Make a Cool Character

I am a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons books. I wanted to share one of my favorite characters with others who are interested. I hope it is of some use to you in making your own characters.

This character build was made to conform to v3.5 of Dungeons and Dragons books and the Living Greyhawk Campaign. It uses 28 point buy system for attributes, and a special race. I hope you like it.

Race: Snow Elf (+2 Dex, -2 Cha)

Class: Level 1 Barbarian/Level 5 Wizard/Level 10 Fighter.

Strength 16 (10 points), Dexterity 16 (6 points), Constitution 14 (6 points), Intelligence 14 (6 points), Wisdom 8 (0 points), Cha 6 (0 points)

Feats and Abilities:

Level 1(Barbarian 1): Simple Weapon Proficiency, Martial Weapon Proficiency, Light Armor Proficiency, Medium Armor Proficiency, Shield Proficiency, Endurance

Level 2 (Wizard 1): Scribe Scroll

Level 3 (Fighter 1): Heavy Armor Proficiency, Tower Shield Proficiency, Combat Expertise, Extra Rage

Level 4 (Fighter 2): Str +1, Improved trip

Level 5 (Fighter 3):

Level 6 (Fighter 4): Monkey Grip, Weapon Proficiency: Spiked Chain

Level 7 (Fighter 5):

Level 8 (Fighter 6): Str +1, Combat Reflexes

Level 9 (Wizard 2): Extend Rage

Level 10 (Wizard 3):

Level 11 (Wizard 4):

Level 12 (Wizard 5): Str +1, Craft Wand, Power Attack

Level 13 (Fighter 7):

Level 14 (Fighter 8): Improved Critical: Spiked Chain

Level 15 (Fighter 9): Cleave

Level 16 (Fighter 10): Str +1, Weapon Specialisation: Spiked Chain

The idea behind this character is simple. Make a cool fighter who can buff himself with spells and abilities.

This character can use wands even when in armor. A zap of bulls strength, bears endurance, cats grace, enlarge person, haste, and then raging makes this guy somewhat scary:

Str 26, Dex 18, Con 22 large creature with 70ft movement, 20ft reach, 5 attacks of opportunity a turn and a bunch of normal attacks.

Due to monkey grip he can hold a spiked chain in one hand, leaving his other hand free for a tower shield. He will wear mithral fullplate which counts as medium armor so he won’t lose his fast movement ability (with the endurance feat he can sleep in medium armor… no need to ever take it off).

With 26 Str and being a large creature, he can trip many opponents – definitely a benefit. He can increase his damage and/or his AC with Power Attack and Combat Expertise.

This is a fighter who can be both extremely defensive and extremely offensive. Just an example of some of the cool things you can with your characters when you apply a little foresight to their advancement. And if you haven’t already, grab yourself a copy of the new 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons books. Definitely worth a read.

Burial Insurance: A Real Need or Unnecessary Expense?

Being prepared in life means being prepared for the eventual end of it. That is why some people are considering getting burial insurance. But what exactly is this? And what does it entail? Is it really needed or is it just an extra cost that you can spend on something else.

What is the cost of Burial Insurance?

Some people think that burial insurance is included in some of the life insurance being offered nowadays. But it’s not, actually.

Unlike life insurance, this only covers all the expenses that one may accrue in preparation of and during the wake and burial. Some of these are: the coffin or casket, the funeral service, the plot and headstone in the cemetery, and so many others which one may think of.

It will ensure that you will get the funeral and burial that you deserve – or dreamt of, even.

Why You May Need It?

The only certain thing in life is its uncertainty. You probably have heard this said several times already but the thing with clichés is that it is so true. You will need burial insurance primarily because you do not know exactly when the end will come and you want to be ready for it.

Like weddings, the thought of how you will be laid to rest have passed your mind. Well, it may not be as often as thinking about weddings and other jovial celebrations. But surely, you do not want your family to dig a shallow grave and lay your shroud-covered body there, right?

How Much Might It Cost You?

Everything has a price tag nowadays. That is sad, but it is very true. If you are wary about how much burial insurance will cost you, the average cost per month is at $35 at an average. It may amount to a total sum of $7,500.

Of course, that will depend on what kind of insurance you have chosen (what sort of funeral service and burial you want), the company you signed up with, when you plan to start paying it off, and the state in which you live in.

There are several companies that are on the internet nowadays, a great advantage for everyone. You can do your window shopping here already, getting a quote and all.

How to Save Up for Insurance?

At this day and age, it would seem that everything we do and own require insurance. It may seem too much expense when we are already paying for so much like bills, food and education. But do remember that this is very much important as well – our safety net for unexpected events.

Saving up for these things won’t really be a huge problem as long as you know how to budget your income. Allocate time every single week with your accounts. It may take up some time but it can really help you save up for these things.

Will You Sign Up Soon?

So, will you be signing up for one? One can only speak for themselves really. But if you care for those who you will potentially leave behind, getting burial insurance will ensure that they won’t have to get too stressed with all the preparation and cost of everything when the time does come.

Laser Hair Removal System – Know the Facts

Why is Hair Removal Essential?

Apart from cosmetic reasons, there can be other compelling reasons why people want to remove hair; for example medical reasons.

This is required when due to some hormonal imbalance women start sprouting hair at places where they are not supposed to, e.g., facial hair. Also, before surgery a patient’s hair requires removal in order to reduce chances of infection. This is done by a simple temporary method like shaving.

Social and cultural reasons dictate hair removal at times. Would you look better at the workplace clean-shaven or with stubble or would you like to flaunt hairy legs on a date? These are things like that make up social and cultural reasons. Many religions across the world also involve some kind of hair removal ritual. Check out Proper Puss by clicking here.

Types of Hair Removal

There are basically two types of hair removal – temporary and permanent hair removal processes. Before we discuss the different methods available for hair removal it is essential to know that hair growth starts from beneath the skin’s surface.

If you want to remove hair above the skin’s surface then that is most likely a temporary method, also called depilation. Shaving, trimming, using creams or powders that dissolve hair or using rough surfaces to rub off hair are temporary methods.

Permanent hair removal, also called epilation, involves removing hair not just from the surface but removing it entirely along with the root. Methods like tweezing, waxing, sugaring, threading, etc. are depilation methods. Then there are the more sophisticated depilation methods such as electrolysis and laser hair removal.

Permanent Hair Removal System

If you are looking for a type of permanent hair removal system, you can rest assured in knowing that there are many options available to you, and so depending on your budget, available time, and personal preference, you should be able to narrow down between the available options and decide on the one that is right for you.

Some of the most popular permanent hair removal system processes include:

o Electrolysis hair removal

o Epilators

o Hair growth inhibitors

o Hair removal creams and depilatories

o Ingrown hair treatments

o Sugaring

o Waxing

Laser Hair Removal System

There are different types of laser hair removal systems that are available for you to choose, when you are looking for a laser hair removal system.

Each laser hair removal system is different in at least some way from the next, and this is why it is so incredibly important that you truly make yourself knowledgeable on all of the different options, so that you will be sure to make the decision that is right and best for you in the end.

The Advantages of Laser Hair Removal

o Laser hair removal is considered extremely safe if performed properly and by qualified specialists.

o A majority of clients have reported long lasting results and even permanent hair removal.

o A laser hair removal treatment can be carried out on large areas such as the chest, back, and legs in one session.

o If there is re-growth after laser hair removal this will be much lighter and finer in texture than before.

o It can be virtually painless when compared with waxing and electrolysis as a means of body hair removal.

Laser Hair Removal Side Effects

Laser hair removal is an incredibly significant and important matter, and in fact a large majority of the people in the world has had it done.

However, in the case of something like this, it seems that there would of course have to be some types of side effects, and this is what begs the questions of what the possible laser hair removal side effects are.

In regards to the matter of the possible laser hair removal side effects, if you are one of those people who is worried about the safety of this practice, it is important for you to know that laser hair removal side effects are in fact quite rare, and, in most other cases, completely temporary.

Hyper Pigmentation

The most common side effects would include something such as hyper pigmentation, meaning the appearance of dark or white spots, of which would appear on the skin and then disappear in a few months.

This usually happens more often to those who have extremely sensitive skin, and more sensitive skins may also become slightly crusty, but again it is important to recognize and remember that all of these symptoms are only temporary.

Exposure to Sun

Basically, in regards to the side effects from such a treatment as this, they are closely related with exposure to sun or otherwise photo-sensitizing medications.

For instance, people who go to tanning beds regularly may not be an excellent candidate for this laser hair removal procedure, or they should at least refrain from going to the beds for a significant period of time both before and after they plan on having the procedure done.

Laser Hair Removal Risks

There are particular laser hair removal risks that are involved with a laser hair removal treatment or procedure just like any other type of procedure. It is significant for anyone who is planning to have a procedure like this done to understand the possible laser hair removal risks, so that they are well informed on the matter as a whole before having it done.

Skin Burns

The laser hair removal risks may include things such as a burning of the skin, or a discoloring on darker skin due to the use of the laser. This is particularly more likely if the doctor that is performing the procedure is not qualified or experienced enough, and so this is why you will want to make extra sure that the staff of the location you are going to is extremely qualified and deserving of your business and your trust.

Redness or Swelling

As well, after the procedure, no medications or bandages are essential however you are likely to notice some redness and swelling on the skin for a relative time after it is completed.

Crusting of the Skin

As well, stinging may occur for the first couple of days, and some people may even experience a slight crusting of the skin; if this crusting occurs in your case, you should make sure to keep the whole area moist, for example with Vaseline, which is the most recommended option for this.

In regards to the possible laser hair removal risks, there are few, but these still must be considered as critical to learn and understand about.

Seeking Out the Help of Professional Surgeon

There are many options in terms of laser hair removal that you can think about. One option is to seek out a professional surgeon that can complete the quick procedure in their office with little time or cost involved.

It is this type of thing that can end up being the best method to go about it because you trust a professional and you have them to hold accountable for having proper working laser hair removal equipment and a knowledgeable staff.

Without this, you may be looking at a much less confident procedure that could end up removing parts that you do not want removed.

Apple IMac 27 Review – Best Home Computer

Apple’s iMac is a workhorse of a desktop computer. With maximum memory, the computer can handle every workload, from games, small business management, photography, and even video production. I stumbled upon the 27″ at Tyler School of Art in the advanced lab. Working on it was the best computer experience I have ever had in my life. It sits on a desk and just works from the moment you start using it

Before sitting down at the computer, I naturally had a few things in mind that had to get done. I was there with a purpose. It was so fast and easy to use, that I did not get distracted once. From the start to finish, my work was on-task and efficient. I scanned negatives, blogged, and edited some photos with unparalleled efficiency. The screen is so big and easy to see that every window was there when I needed it. Apple’s iMac gets an A+, because there is no better deal

  • This iMac runs the best operating system, OS X, and can also run Windows 7 in a virtual machine or exclusively
  • With 27″ of display real estate, there is enough room to share it among many different apps
  • Today’s iMacs are so fast that they set a new benchmark and standard
  • Great value, you get an LED display, keyboard, mouse, and a computer with all the hardware you need to work

  • A potential drawback is the price tag, though it is absolutely worth it in my opinion
  • Servicing the computer, if ever a problem arises, can be a hassle because it will need to be dropped off at an Apple store
  • New 2013 iMacs have no CD/DVD drive
  • New 2013 21.5″ iMacs require certified professionals to modify RAM configurations (27″ still have user-accessible RAM)

Apple’s iMac deserves an A+ because using it is the best computer experience, far surpassing other all-in-one competitors. I arrived at this rating because the iMac experience is so profound. I got one soon after graduating college, and it serves me and my home-based business everyday. It delivers on all fronts

I used a Pentium 4 3.1ghz from iBuyPower for over 10 years and had to reload Windows XP at least eight times. If you are lucky enough to get an iMac someday, you will never go back to other brands. Know what you are getting when buying a 2013 iMac, because they have significant hardware changes like those mentioned earlier. Also, read my blog post about the insane and rare problems I had with my first iMac– you will not want to miss it!

The Number One Killer of MacBooks, and How to Avoid It!

James departed the Apple Store with a slow shuffle, eyes fixed downward, and seemingly… glazed. He had just been informed that his MacBook Pro, purchased only weeks prior, had been devastated by a small mishap over dinner. “Not much more than a tablespoon of wine…”, – but quite enough to render his three-thousand dollar investment utterly worthless! Sadly, Jim had recently paid extra for the extended, three-year warranty – Apple Care! The words burned in his dazed consciousness, like a rejected lover… “SPILLS ARE NOT COVERED!”.

Jim is not alone; spill damage is, hands down, the number one killer of MacBook pro is water damage – the world over. The piles of broken macbook in my shop are largely there due to spill damage. The fragile circuits in these electronic power houses are literally printed onto the boards with lasers, making them extremely expensive to produce and impossible to replace at reasonable cost. The power and technology built into these exclusive Machines, makes them fatally susceptible to electrical shorts brought on by water and/or liquid spills. If the MacBook Pro (and perhaps the Alienware) is the ‘SUPERMAN’ of the Laptop world, then liquids are their ‘KRYPTONITE’!

As a technician, and a refurbish-er of broken macbooks, I have seen liquid damage from just about every liquid under the sun, not the least of which is… You guessed it… BEER! – And little wonder: Drinking and driving don’t mix – we all know that. Just so, drinking and ‘surfing’ is just as fatal to laptops. Coffee spills are just a common, as are latte, water, juice, milk, and of course – Water!

Here’s Some Sure Fire Tips On How To Avoid Spills: (‘An ounces of prevention is worth a pound of cure!’)

1. Don’t drink and ‘surf’
MacBooks and bars DON’T MIX. MacBooks and ALCOHOL don’t mix. If you are meeting some friends for a drink (or drinks?) after a bit of studying at the library, GO HOME FIRST! If you want to avoid a broken macbook with spill damage (and other damage, as well), then don’t bring your laptop to the bar. Leave it home!

2. Coffee hides in coffee houses. Avoid them!
A very common practice is to catch up on some work or study at the local latte joint. Interestingly, it is also a very common place for coffee spills. The tables are too small and unsteady, there are too many people walking around, and it is far too crowded to make coffee houses a safe place for your MacBook. Worse, there is coffee EVERYWHERE, on every table, counter, and in every hand, in flimsy paper cups. A MacBook in a coffee house is a broken macbook waiting to happen, even if the coffee has a fancy french name and is priced at $9.00 per cup.

3. A Warning From My College Professor – 25 years ago…
“Never, Ever, EVER Eat or Drink around computers.” This RULE WAS LAW in ALL COMPUTER LABS in the 1980’s. There were signs everywhere, and you could be kicked out of the lab for good if this rule was violated. Back then, computers were enormously expensive, and the schools knew well the tragic financial results of ‘snacking’ in the lab. Take this rule very seriously, and you will avoid a mountain of HEARTACHE! Never drink, eat (or snack) while working on your MacBook!

4. Stay out of the kitchen.
When dining, leave your MacBook home or in the car – locked in the trunk, of course. Do not bring a MacBook into a lunchroom, restaurant, dining area, kitchen, or ANY PLACE where Food and Drinks are being served. (Yes, this includes the kitchen table – the NUMBER ONE LOCATION FOR SPILL DAMAGE, AND RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE BROKEN MACBOOKS THAN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD)

5. MacBook Armor (MacBook case)

Tiles are great way to add a sense of sophistication and charm to your home without shelling out big bucks. Cleaning tiles is never an easy task; it is long, tedious and cumbersome. Furthermore, it is easy to get confused when it comes to finding the right way of cleaning tiles. It is imperative to clean the tiles carefully in order to maintain their beauty, lustre and durability. A lot of care needs to be administered while cleaning the grouts between the tiles as they are prone to breaking. Compiled in this article are simple yet effective tips to cleaning different types of tiles.

Cleaning Slate tiles

Slate tiles are one of the most sought after options in tiles as they are durable, aesthetically appealing, porous, and slip-resistant. Because of their porous nature, slate tiles are easy to clean with minimal of supervision. To clean the tiles, first remove the surface debris and dirt using a vacuum. Make it a point to remove dirt from all nooks and crevices. You do not need any chemically concentrated cleaning agent to clean your slate tiles; regular dish washing soap will also do. First, mix half a cup of cleaning soap into a tub of warm water. Refrain from using excess water to clean tiles; remember that in this case less is more. Using a clean cotton mop, sweep the tiles with the soapy water. Repeat the process two more times to remove the excess water and allow the tiles to dry naturally. Try not to use harsh cleaning agents on slate tiles as it can strip them of their sealants.

Cleaning kitchen tiles

Kitchen tiles are probably more susceptible to being stained. The simple mopping that you do to clean regular tiles might not work to remove stubborn stains. What you need is to take an aggressive approach to cleaning. Use nylon scrubbing pads and chlorine-free cleaner, spray the solution directly on the stain and wait for few seconds. Once the stain is soaked through, it will be much easier to clean it away. Using the nylon pad, scrub the stain away in a circular motion. If you are using any new cleaning agents, make sure to test them on a small surface area to check for any adverse reactions before you clean the entire floor with the cleaning agent.

Cleaning Saltillo tiles

Saltillo tiles are very much in vogue today. Unlike other tiling options, Saltillo tiles are naturally produced from sun-dried clay. These tiles have a stunning rustic charm to them that is incomparable. A lot more care needs to be given when it comes to cleaning Saltillo tiles. Even though Saltillo tiles are sturdy, they have a very delicate surface that is prone to chipping and starching over time. Before you start with the cleaning, check the surface for any visible cracks. If there are any major cracks on the tiles, seal them off. Start by removing the dirt from the surface using a broom or vacuum with brush attachment. Use plain water to wash the tiles; opt for a cleaning agent that is mild and specifically designed to clean Saltillo tiles. Complete the process by polishing the floors; waxing is not suitable for Saltillo, but polishing sure is.

Cleaning glass tiles

Cleaning glass can be tricky as ever. What you need is vinegar, a soft bristled brush and lipid warm water. Spray the solution on the tile, leave it for few minutes to saturate and scrub it away, and make sure you clean the grouts between the tiles.
